We were thrilled to partner with the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority in announcing that there will be safe, separated bike and pedestrian lanes on the new Gordie Howe Bridge. That this exciting Federal announcement took place in our fledgling bike hub made the win even sweeter – it was a thrill to welcome dignitaries, the media, advocates and friends to our space.
Many, many people have worked hard over several years to advocate for active transit across the bridge and yesterday’s announcement was great news for the cities of Windsor and Detroit and for the region. A big thank you to the thousands of individuals who signed the petition and whose voices were heard at the highest level of governments in Canada and the US. We are grateful to MP Brian Masse, to Minister A. Sohi, to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, and to the WDBA Chair Dwight Duncan and CEO Michael Cautillo for listening, for sharing the vision and for their support in this important initiative that will benefit generations to come.
Our job now is to advocate for safe, connected bikeways from the new bridge to downtown and to the Parkway and beyond.
