Windsor Bicycling Committee Hosts $500 Bike Safety Video Contest

Many Windsorites do not feel safe cycling on our streets, and to help increase cycling safety the Windsor Bicycling Committee puts on safety campaigns, education, and public service announcements (PSA). The Windsor Bicycling Committee has created a Bike Safety Video Content to come up with some new PSAs.

The WBC would like to provide Windsorites with a catchy and modern PSA. Due to tightened budgets, creativity and ingenuity will play a major role in the success of any city committee, and so the WBC is asking for the public’s help – but not without reward! The WBC is announcing their first Bike Safety Video Contest, with a grand prize of $500 for the lucky maker of the winning video.

The video contest will be open to all Windsor and Essex County residents. Videos should be 1-3 minutes of original content, written and produced by an individual or team (up to 5 members). Bicycle Safety PSAs tend to focus on issues such as helmet use, proper use of equipment, road rules, and the dangers of sidewalk cycling.

The deadline for this contest is December 22nd, 2010, at 5pm. Entries can be submitted through the mail to Windsor City Hall’s Council Services Department, or they can be uploaded to the participant’s YouTube account and the link emailed to the WBC at cyclewindsor@gmail.com. The winner will be announced on January 15th, 2011.

For more information about this contest, and to download the Official Rules and the Official Entry Form, visit the WBC’s website at www.cyclewindsor.ca.

We posted back in September the types of PSAs that can come out of a competition like this, and here are another two. Hopefully we will soon be seeing similar PSAs on our screens produced by Windsorites!
