Open Riverside Drive for Weekly

Pedestrian/Cycling Sundays Spring to Fall

Open Streets is Windsor’s biggest and most popular community event that sees thousands of people enjoying the freedom to safely experience their streets without the danger of car traffic. BUT,  waiting an entire year for four hours of car free streets is not enough.

Across Ontario, municipalities are seeing the benefits of regularly opening streets to people – for more than four hours a year. Open Streets supports recreation, healthy living and community engagement in the City.

While businesses can benefit from Open Streets, retail and restaurants are often closed on Sundays (when Windsor holds its Open Streets) and so the benefit to local businesses is minimal. We will still support all Open Streets in business areas, but we would like to see a weekly Open Streets on Riverside Drive every Sunday from Spring to Fall.

  1. I’ll sign, and I’ll say yes….

But I don’t agree with Weekly Open Streets on Riverside, sorry…..

Wyandotte is the far better location. There are many businesses, there are many BIAs who would be forced to see that, despite their own party lines, despite the disinformation they’ve been fed by City Council, Open Streets, indeed REGULAR safe, protected, seperated, Bike Access and End Of Ride facilities are GREAT for business.

Cars just wiz past, and if they do stop, too often one car=one person, and they take up FAR too much room, are far too loud, are far too dangerous, are far too polluting, to offset the few dollars in revenue they might generate.

    Bikes are better.

So yeah, let’s get Weekend Open Streets from spring to fall, but let’s do it where destinations are. Riverside Drive lacks destinations except for a couple of blocks downtown.

    Thanks for trying, at least!

    Cheers
