Who We Are

Our Mission.

At Bike Windsor Essex, we advocate for safer cycling infrastructure and public and government acceptance and support for cycling as a legitimate means of transportation. You can help by joining and volunteering with us or by donating.

We believe cycling is an important aspect of forward thinking regions. We believe that supporting cycling can improve the health, economy, and environment of our local community.

We seek to help make our region more bicycle friendly. We propose to accomplish this through:

  • Advocating for adequate funding for improved cycling infrastructure
  • Networking with local, provincial, national and international cycling organizations to share best practices and to monitor current trends
  • Organizing and supporting events that promote fun and safe cycling
  • Acting as a liaison for all cyclists in Windsor and Essex County

Our Goals.

Bike Windsor Essex’s advocacy efforts are grounded in what we hear from our members and the broader community. We are knowledgeable about best practices and share our knowledge and make bike-friendly recommendations to government agencies and related organizations, including:

  • City of Windsor Council, Planning and Transportation Engineers
  • County of Essex Council and Transportation Engineer including engineers and planners for LaSalle, Tecumseh, Kingsville, Essex
  • County Wide Active Transportation System (CWATS)
  • Share the Road Essex County
  • Share the Road Cycling Coalition (Ontario)
  • Ontario by Bike
  • Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority

We were established in 2010 as Bike Friendly Windsor and are a registered non-profit. We are a membership based grassroots cycling advocacy group representing all bike lovers across the City of Windsor and Essex County. We advocate for safer streets for all vulnerable road users, promote the legitimacy of cycling, and accessibility for all who choose to cycle.

We meet the first Tuesday of every month and welcome all in the community to join us to talk about current campaigns, road challenges, and upcoming cycling events.
