Share the Road unveils “Green Paper” on cycling in Ontario

While Bike Friendly Windsor has just recently formed as a cycling advocacy organization in Windsor, a provincial cycling advocacy organization (the Share the Road Cycling Coalition) has just released a “Green Paper” entitled “When Ontario Bikes, Ontario Benefits – A Green Paper on Bicycling in Ontario ”.

Green Paper: When Ontario Bikes, Ontario Benefits – A Green Paper on Bicycling in Ontario [PDF]

This paper is a result of the Ontario Bike Summit which occured last fall. I believe that one of the Windsor Bicycle Committee (a sub-committe of City-hall) members was able to attend that summit. Another such summit, the Michigan Bicycle Summit is coming up very soon. The University of Windsor Law school will also be hosting a summit or conference in the next few months as well.

Back to the Green Paper, it provides advice and priorities to the Ontario government in terms of how it can make Ontario more bicycle friendly, including the suggestion to create a $20 million “Ontario Bicycling Investment Fund”. The dollar figure represents the amount of HST collected on bicycles and bicycle accessories annually.
