The Windsor Star and CBC are both reporting that the Tour di Via Italia has been cancelled for this year.
The race, which has occurred on Windsor’s Erie Street every year since 1958 was disrupted by road construction. Organizers had planned to detour to downtown for this year, but apparently “the logistics were too much to overcome”, and there was a lack of trained volunteers.
There has been some discussion that the construction on Erie Street should in fact be complete in time for the annual road race, so hopefully the race can go on.
The CBC news article hints that Councillor Alan Halberstadt may be attempting to help prevent this years cancellation.
